Design and features The user interface for AutoCAD can be simple, command-based or a combination of both. If you’re used to drawing on a computer monitor, AutoCAD’s use of 3D is a bit different. Typically, a design is made in the first person perspective (1PP), with orthographic, exploded, section, and isometric views. Within the 3D environment, the viewport can be selected and adjusted using the keyboard, mouse, or a 3D mouse called a TrackBall. Whether you are drafting in 2D or 3D, the user interface allows you to easily work and interact with objects in the drawing area. An important feature is the ability to create more detailed work in a Drawing Area view (one view of the drawing area), and then show an image of the drawing at a larger size in the Windows or AutoCAD BI Publisher (AutoCAD’s version of AutoCAD’s native file format is AutoCAD R12 files, but AutoCAD BI Publisher is also used for creating other file formats such as AutoCAD DWG, DXF, PDF, and Adobe Illustrator files). AutoCAD, like other AutoCAD products, can have several sections or tabs, for example, Workbench, Applications, Preferences and so on. You can also organize these sections to your liking. Creating a 3D environment is one of the most complex aspects of drafting. In AutoCAD, this is done by creating a drawing in 2D (model), adding a Section, clicking the Section Reference option in the Top Menu, selecting 3D.
