I’m a absolute newbie and planning a trip to Florida so impressed by so many great reviews of the new version of photoshop. will have to invest in it now though as it seems I will have to give it a year to be able to actually work.
Who has any experience of the new smart previews within photoshop – my understanding is that it slows down the workflow when you edit. Is there any other comment on this function?

Handy little tracker which will help you stay on top of where your latest projects are stored on your computer. From there you can export, add or delete the project folder and tidy your hard disk. Nice and simple.
New in this version is an updated Help index (which, surprisingly, was not found right away). Speaking of helpful, if you share a copy of that document with someone else, you can document it in the Help index. Other changes include updating the PDF version of the Handbook and adding a few new tutorials, including tips on content aware fill, HDR capture and selection of textures and patterns.
Object Selection will minimize to the taskbar once you’ve found what you’re looking for. Unfortunately, it’s still not as sensitive as a mouse. But, if you’re scrolling through layers, it’ll pop into view whenever your mouse passes over an object. (The option is on by default, but toggles on and off.)
Photoshop is changing the way you take a picture or clip an element from a movie. But first, you must know where to find them. Photoshop has introduced a new panel of shortcuts for snapping to or clipping to various parts of the screen. Besides the usual options of the bracket, the crosshairs and grid, you also get Lens Blur, Clipping Path and Content Aware Fill. And in a small change from the last iteration, Slice will allow you to cut to a specific percentage of your image as you capture it. In addition, you can now label the adjustments layer to easily locate that oft-used tool when you’re scrolling across multiple layers. (Caveat: You cannot select Adjustment Layers to name them.)
You’d probably be aware that fonts are such an important part of the overall look of a website. And since a good proportion of the fonts available at font providers change and expire, a frequent website refresh (or a major website update) can be a real pain. You’d also be aware that the look and design of a website is only as good as the underlying fonts (and images) that are used to support it.
The Adjustment tools within the Color and Swatches tool give you the chance to tweak a few final details and create a professional look for your content. You can create soft, dramatic, or more subtle adjustments. For example, if you apply a yellow color to an image, you can choose to make it more yellow, less yellow, or stay the classic yellow color. You can also choose the type of adjustment you want to make, so there’s flexibility for any style or aesthetic you want to convey.
What It Does: The Blend tool lets you decide how the color of your selection, or selection window, will be applied to the layer you’re working on. You can select an exact color from the Color or Swatches palettes for a seamless blending of other colors, or choose a gradient using a number of custom gradient styles. You can take your blend further by adding effects like lighting, colorizing, or opacity.
What It Does: The Lens Blur Filter creates a subtle, added edge on objects in your image. This filter can be applied to any object in the Photo Editor, including photos, photos with layers, video, web, and virtual reality content.

The new interface is intuitive and displays all the content related tools and settings in one place. You can easily see the layers and edit them using the panel to the right. You can quickly adjust color, tone and exposure settings and view details about the selected object just by clicking on the eyedropper icon. The new interface even offers a streamlined tools panel to quickly access tools, including tools that didn’t exist in the previous interface.
The new interface is designed to work best when you are focused on one task at a time, but you can always return to the old classic desktop interface by choosing View>Desktop. When you return to the new interface you’ll find all your content is still in place.
The new interface provides the tools you need for any creative job. The new Design workspace features a Content workspace with tools for creating and arranging content, an Layers workspace with tools for working with layers, and a Paths workspace with tools for creating paths.
All the tools that you know and love from Photoshop are still there, along with lots of new features to make your workflow even more efficient. You can even revert to the classic view by choosing View>Desktop.
If you want to share content with colleagues, the new Design workspace offers a Content workspace with tools that make it easy for you to create and arrange content, a Layers workspace with tools for working with layers, and a Paths workspace with tools for creating paths.
To see how comments function, select Tools > Comments > Add Comment. The Comments tab displays the number next to the section, as in the image below.
